HEPATITIS

Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver caused by viruses, toxic substances, excess deposition of fat, allergic reactions or overdoses of drugs and herbs. Hepatitis can either be acute or chronic. Acute hepatitis last for few weeks while chronic hepatitis last for more than six months. Hepatitis can disrupt the process of liver function and create severe health problem in the body. There are about seven viruses that can infect the liver and they are identified as hepatitis A, B, C, D, E, F and G.
  1. Hepatitis A is the most common form of viral hepatitis, it is transmitted by food or drink contaminated by a carrier or patient and commonly occurs where sanitation is poor
  2. Hepatitis B is a much more serious infection, it is transmitted by infected blood, sexual contact with an infected person, tattooing, body fluid contact and also occurs in drug addicts and infected mother to infant, through breast feeding. Hepatitis B can cause liver cancer when inflamed.
  3. Hepatitis C has a mode of transmission similar to hepatitis B. It is spread through transfusions or shared needles, it is a potentially deadly infection. Symptoms are fatigue, sore bones and dryness of the eyes
  4. Hepatitis D is a defective virus and occurs only when or after infection with hepatitis B.people with D virus usually have severe chronic hepatitis and make hepatitis B symptoms worse
  5. Hepatitis E is transmitted by infected food or drink and can cause acute hepatitis, it is more severe in a pregnant patient, it produces symptoms similar to hepatitis A
  6. Hepatitis F is an extremely rare type of the virus, it is transmitted from primate to human
  7. Hepatitis G is a relatively common infection, it accounts for as many as 9 percent of all hepatitis infections, hepatitis G is a mild form of the ceases and does not cause ongoing liver damage
 Chronic hepatitis
This may continue for months or years and eventually will lead to progressive liver failure resulting in jaundice, swelling of the lower extremities and blood in feces or vomit, it is usually caused by persistent infection with hepatitis virus usually B, C, or D. Chronic hepatitis keeps the liver from breaking down the toxins it normally removes from the body, thereby causing buildup of toxins in the bloodstream

Symptoms:
Early stage
  1.  Flu-like complaint
  2. Light yellow color eyes
  3. Fatigue
  4. Mild fever
  5. Nause
  6. Vomitting
  7. Weight loss
  8. Abdominal pain
  9. Muscle or joint aches
  10. Jaundice
Later stage
  1. Sensitivity to light
  2. Swollen joint
  3. Dark urine.
  4. Itching skin
  5. Light colored feces
  6. Yellow skin
  7. Yellow color eyes
  8. Whitish tongue
Recommendations
  1. Vaccination (please visit the nearest health center)
  2. Wash your hands with soap after using the bathroom
  3. Eat well cooked food
  4. Do not share razor and needles
  5. Do not have contact with infected body fluid
  6. Avoid fatty foods
  7. Limit protein intake
  8. Avoid stale foods
  9. Avoid alcohol in all forms
Note:
The destructive agent in hepatitis is not the virus, but the immune system itself. As long as the virus lies dormant in the liver cells, it is undetectable to the immune system.

KIDNEYS DAMAGING HABITS

The kidneys are two bean shaped organs, located against the back muscles in the upper abdominal cavity, they are essential to health as their main funtions are to remove waste products from the body and keep body chemicals in balance. The kidneys perform the following functions:
  1. To ensure that there is no too much or too little water in the body
  2. To make sure that blood pressure is not too high or too low
  3. To make sure that the body is not too acidic or too alkaline
  4. To maintain balance of electrolytes like potassium, sodium and calcium
  5. To get rid of uric acid, toxins, and other waste via urine
  6. To activates vitamin D. which helps the body absorbs calcium
  7. To release erythropoietin, which tells bone marrow to make red blood cells
A gradual damage to the kidneys can go unnoticed for years and this is why lots of people  are down with kidney diseases and many more are potentially at risk, it is a steady process that happens over several years as a result of poor lifestyle and improper management of conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney stones etc.

Kidney disorders can be divided into two categories

  1.  Acute: These are caused by infection and last for short period of time
  2. Chronic: These are collection of diseaes that cause the kidneys to leak massive quantiity of protein into the urine

Symptoms of kidney disease
  1. Fluid retention
  2. Back pain
  3. Abdominal pain
  4. Reduuced amount of urine
  5. Urinary urgency
  6. Chills and  fever
  7. Vomitting
  8. Fatigue
  9. Cloudy or bloody urine
  10. Loss of appetite
Kidneys damaging habits
1. Eating too much of meat and protein
Eating too much of meat and protein can increase the metabolic load of the kidneys, most especially regular consumption of red meat which can cause dysfunction or failure

2. Not drinking enough water
The main functions of kidneys are detoxification, if we do not drink enough water  the blood will be concentrated and the blood flow to the kidney will not be adequate making it difficult to expel toxins from blood

3. Lack of vitamins and minerals
For proper kidney functioning we need adequate vitamin and minerals, vitamin B6 and magnessium are essencial for proper kidney functioning

4. Painkiller abuse
The use of analgesics for a prolonged period may reduce the flow of blood and greatly affects kidney function, causing kidney inflammation and damage

5. Not emptying your bladder early
Controlling yourself from urinating for a very long time can cause the bacteria breeding in urine to multiply quickly once the urine refuxes back to ureter and kidneys, the bacteria can result in kidney infections, then urinary tract infection and then nephritis, for this reason, do not delay urination

6. Alcohol
Drinking alcohol may cause the deposition of uric acid in renal tubules causing tubular obstruction and increasing risk of kidney failure

7. Lack of sleep
Lack of sleep can lead to several health problems including kidney disease, the body repair damaged kidney tissues when we sleep, so, better sleep means better kidneys

8. Not eating enough
This is also as dangerous as eating too much, both of them will damage the digestive organs which closely  relates to the immune system, this it why many kidney failure patients are diagonised with autoimmune kidney damages

9. Excess sugar
High sugar foods increase the protein contents in the system which in turn exerts pressure on the kidneys,  protein in urine is an early sign of kidney damage

10. Taking too muuch salt
Excess salt intake will make the kidneys work harder to excrete the excess salt and can lead to  decreased kidney function, the excess sodium will cause water retention which elevates blood pressure and increases the risk of developing kidney disease

11. Caffeine
caffeine stimulates blood flow, increasing blood pressure and stress on the kidneys, long term usage of caffeine causes kidney failure in obessed and diabetic people

12. Smoking
Cigarretes smoking slows the blood flow to important organs like the kidneys and can make kidney disease worse

13. Ignoring common infections
Ignoring common infections and signs like backache, breathing issues, change in quantity and colour of urine, fatigue, feeling cold most of the time, itching skin, bad breath and sudden pain in  the body

14.  Eating processed foods
These are significant sources of sodium and phosphorus, and are very harmful to the kidneys

15. Sitting for too long
Sitting for a long period have been linked to developement of kidney disease

Treatment
  1. kidney beans - Heal and maintain kidney function
  2. Watermelon - A duretic that keep the kidneys healthy
  3. Aloe vera - Prevent stones formation
  4. Celery and pasley - Keeps uric acid in check
  5. Dandelion - Aid in excretion of kidney waste products
  6. Fiber diet - Eating a high fiber diet is of much importance
  7. Spices for health - Cook your food with turmeric and corriander
  8. Exercise - Daily exercise helps keep calcium from draining out of the bones and ending up in the urine where it could contribute to formation of stones
 Protect your kidneys
  1. Limit salt and sugar intake
  2. Do not eat high protein foods e.g red meat
  3. Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily
  4. keep your blood pressure at 130/80mmHg
  5. Do not rely on food supplements alone to protect your kidneys
  6. Avoid all diary products except for those that are sowered
  7. Do a three days cleansing and juice fasting
  8. Painkillers and some drugs can lead to kidney dysfunction
  9. Keep your blood sugar below 120mg/dl
  10. Do not take alcohol, coffee and any carbonated drink
  11. Do a kidney check to know your health state

Keep your kidneys healthy.
Kidneys are the unsung
heros of our bodies

GINGIVITIS

This is simply an inflammation of the gums that is caused by the build up of plaques on the surfaces of the teeth and their necks , making the gum swollen and bleed easily especially while brushing the teeth, most times we over look the issue but it is worth while taken care off, in other to prevent it from becoming a bad case. Brushing is helpful in removing plaque, but there are more things needed to be done in other to prevent or reverse gum inflammation/disease. Gingivitis may also be a sign that you have an underlying health problems, it is also another way of the gum telling you that there is an imbalance in your system from a high fat nutrition, indoor pollutants, stress even a warning of the presence of cancerous cells in the body cannot be ruled out. To bring balance back to the body, the first thing is to reduce inflammation and swelling of the gum tissues, then look out for possible cause and treat accordingly.

Types of gingivitis
  1. Acute ulcerative gingivitis - this is a painful infection of the gum with sore littered all over the mouth thereby causing gingival over growth, this may also be caused by drug therapy
  2. Chronic gingivitis - this is a common disease of the oral cavity, it is an early stage of periodontal disease and may lead to receding gum, but it is reversible with good oral hygiene.
The main cause of gingivitis is poor oral hygiene which leads to the accumulation of bacteria at the gum line, these accumulation may be tiny but the bacteria in them produce toxins which create an inflammation in the gum tissues. The inflammation can cause an enlargement of the gingiva and lead to periodontitis.
If your gum are red, puffy and bleed when you brush, you have the early stage of gum disease.

Signs and symptoms
  1. Swollen gum
  2. Bleeding gum
  3. Bright red gum
  4. Tender and painful gum
  5. Gum swelling that recurs
  6. Gum recession
  7. Bad breath
  8. Loose teeth
Treatment
The aim of treatment is to reduce and bring about total removal of oral bacteria, home treatment basically involves
  1. Oral hiegene on a daily basis with proper brushing and flossing
  2. Salt and warm water therapy
  3. Bicarbonate of soda treatment
  4. Hydrogen peroxide in warm water therapy
  5. Apple cider vinegar treatment
  6. Using soft brush to prevent damage to tooth enamel and gums
  7. Avoid high sugar and high protein food
  8. Clean your mouth after every meal
  9. Change your tooth brush bimonthly
  10. Soothe your gum with aloe vera
Give yourself a fresh breath with a healthy gum.

INFERTILITY

In time past, infertility is often traced to and pinned on the woman, but with proper enlightenment and education it is no more news that men can also be infertile. Infertility is a widespread problem and it is becoming an epidemic that most be dealt with.
Male infertility refers to a male inability to make a fertile female pregnant.
Female infertility is simply described as not being able to get pregnant after one year of trying, some women will get pregnant but are unable to stay pregnant because of miscarriage, they are also categorized infertile.
Getting a woman pregnant is one of the simplest biological process, but it can also be the most experienced nightmares if after a year of marriage and unprotected sex the woman cannot make babies

Causes of male infertility
Male infertility is most often the result of a low sperm count or anatomical abnormalities.  Low sperm count is usually caused by problems that affects either sperm production or sperm transport and it generally relies on the quality and quantity of the man. It is believed that infertility problem lies more with the male partner.
Ii is estimated that one in 20 men has some kind of fertility problem with low numbers of sperm in his ejaculate, however only about one in every 100 men have no sperm in his ejaculate.

Risk factors for male infertility
  1. Endocrine disorder - The quality and quantity of the sperm can be disrupted by bispheonl A. a compound found in plastic bottles and cans
  2. Radiation or excessive heat from cellphones, laptops etc.- The radiation, vibration and excessive heat can decrease the sperm potency by 15%
  3.  Prolong fever- Exposure to high temprature because of prolong fever
  4. Testicle wasting  - Infection such as mumps may occur it causes the lower jaw to be swollen and the testes to enlarge and shrink, this germ destroy the capacity of the testes
  5. Obesity - Obesity also can reduce sperm count
  6. Stress - The quality of sperm is directly associated with the quality of your overall health and state of mind.
  7. High temperature - Exposure to high temperature decreases the sperm count alarmingly
  8. Smoking - This can turn you impotent by reducing the blood flow to the private part due to decreasing blood vessel
  9. STDs - Infection account for about 90% of male infertility e.g gonorrhea, syphilis, even staphylococcus, all these can depopulate the sperm or cause scarring to reduce sperm traffic
  10. Hormones - Sex hormone may crash and also run out of balance with one another leading to infertility problem and male menopause
  11. Sperm structure - The sperm is divided into three basic parts, head, neck and tail,  the tail help the sperm to swim to the egg, but when sperm cells are weak, the motility rate is very slow
  12. Alcohol consumption - This have high risk in damaging sperm quality
  13. Exposure to toxins and heavy metals destroy the sperm
Causes of female infertility
Most problems of female infertility results from problems with producing eggs, which may be as a result of premature ovarian failure, blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, endometriosis, uterian fibriods, acidic virgina, cervical issues, some women may develop anti-bodies to their partners sperm thereby becoming allergic to it and sometimes unexplained infertility

Female infertility risk factors
  1. STDs
  2. Age
  3. Obesity
  4. Underweight women
  5. Smoking
  6. Alcohol consumption
  7. Environmental factors
  8. Hormonal problems
  9. Physical problems
  10. Lifestyle
  11. Psychological problems such anxiety, fear of motherhood, stress etc.
Characteristics of a good fertile sperm
  1. The sperm must be of the right count (head, body, tail)
  2. the sperm must be able to swim vigorously (no accident)
  3. the sperm must be agglutinate (gum)
  4. There must be enough food in the semen for the sperm
  5. The sperm must be alkaline
  6. The sperm duct must not be blocked
  7. The sperm must have enough antioxidant to protect against free radicals
 Female ovulation problem
Symptoms includes:
  1. No periods, irregular periods, or irregular bleeding
  2. No ovulation or irregular ovulation
  3. Obesity or weight gain
  4. Underweight women
  5. High blood pressure
  6. Pre-diabetes
  7. Abnormal cholesterol with high triglycerides
  8. Excess hair growth on the body and face
  9. Acne or oily skin
Treatment
The first step in dealing with infirtility is to treat any reproductive tract disorder that may be present.
  1. Treating infections
  2. Dealing with emotional causes
  3. Dietary changes
  4. Lifestyle changes
  5. Exercise
  6. Avoid caffinated drinks, alcohol and smoking
  7. Mind and body relaxation
  8. Men should not wear tight panties because it increases the heat level of the scrotal region and may likely affects or obstructs sperm production
  9. Chiropractic adjustment can make a great difference in both men and women
  10. Acupuncture therapy will stimulate the conception vessel
Foods, herbs and supplements for treating infirtility

PROSTATE CANCER

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, and second most frequent cause of cancer related death in men. It is a malignant (cancerous) tumor that begins in the prostate gland. The prostate is a walnut-size gland located between the bladder and the penis, it is in front of the rectum and the urethra runs through the center of the prostate from the bladder to the penis, letting urine flow out of the body. The gland produces some of the fluid that nourishes and protect sperm and plays a role in urine control in men, during ejaculation the prostate squeezes the fluid into the urethra and it expelled with sperm as semen.
The prostate enlarge with age to an average weight of 40 grams in men in their 70s, many men experience unirary changes as they age, which may be caused by inflammation or enlargement of the prostate gland, and because the prostate is directly involved with sexual reproduction, removing it will affect semen production and fertility.

Prostate cancer begins when some cells in the prostate becomes abnormal, mutations in the abnormal cells cause the cells to grow. Prostate cancer grows slowly and may need little or no treatment because it may not cause problem for years, but some are aggresive and can divide more rapidly than normal cells do and spread quickly. The accumulating abnormal cells form a tumor that can grow to affect nearby tissue some can break off and spread to other parts of the body e.g nearby organs such as bladder, bones etc.

Types of prostate problem
  1. Prostatitis: This is inflammation of the prostate and it is sometimes caused by infection
  2. Enlarged prostate: Called benign prostatic hypertrophy, this is prostate growth that affects virtually all men over 50years.
  3. Prostate cancer: This is the most common form of cancer in men.

Who is at risk?
The prostate gland grows throughout a Man's life, starting at puberty and again from age 25 onward, there may be no symptoms from an enlarged prostate before age 40.

Risk factor:
  • Age
  • Race
  • Family history
  • Infection with STDs
  • High fat diet
  • High sugar diet
  • Chemical exposure
Enlarged prostate
The most common symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy is having to urinate more especially at night and this happens because the enlarged prostate gland presses on the urethra which carries urine out of the body, because of this pressure the bladder muscles have to work harder to pass urine and sometimes may contract when only a small amount of urine is present, pls. note; this is not cancer

Causes of enlarged prostate gland
  1. Inflammation of the prostate gland
  2. Blockage in the tube due to benign
  3. Enlargement of prostate gland
  4. Changes to the muscular wall of the bladder which may cause spasm of the bladder
Symptoms
This always manifest as urinary disorder
  • The need to urinate frequently during the night
  • Urinating more often during the day
  • Urinary urgency - The urge to urinate can be so strong and sudden
  • The urine stream is slow to start
  • Urine dripping after urination
  • Having a sensation that the bladder is not fully emptied after urination
  • Lack of force to the urine flow
  • The urge to visit the bathroom soon after urination
When to see the Doctor
  • Unable to urinate
  • Painful urination
  • Blood in urine
  • Blood in semen
  • Bone pain
  • Discomfort in pelvic area
  • Discharge from the penis
  • Continious or severe urinary incontinence
  • constant fever
  • low back pain
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Pain in the groin
  Self help strategies
  1. Minimize drinks like coffee, alcohol and carbonated drinks
  2. Do not delay urination, once you have an urge
  3. Implement lifestyle changes
  4. Healthy diet
  5. Eats lots of fruits and vegetables
  6. Daily exercise
Treating prostate with herbs
  • saw palmetto
This is a small palm tree, it has been traditionally used to treat a variety of urinary and reproductive issues, especially enlarged prostate

  • Chanka piedra
This is a powerful plant that supports bladder, kidneys, gall bladder and liver health

BREAST CANCER

Breast cancer is the cancer that develop from breast cells, it usually start off in the inner lining of milk ducts or the lobules that supply them with milk, the breast cells become cancerous because of the mutation of the cells which increases without control. A malignant tumor can spread to other parts of the body if not immediately arrested, it is said that every tumor is cancerous except when proved otherwise, every case of tumor should be well investigated and approprate messure should be taken to arrest or stop the growth of this deadly disease. There are many types of breast cancer with stages, a breast cancer that started off in the lobules is known as lobular carcinoma, while the one that develop from the ducts is called ductal carcinoma. Breast cancer mostly occurs in females except for few men that are bursty. The rate of breast cancer are much higher in developed countries and the reasons for this is simply lifestyle and toxic load.
A mature human female breast consist of fat, convective tissues and thousands of lobules tiny glands which produce milk, the milk of a breast feeding mother goes through tiny ducts and is delivered through the nipples. The breast like any other part of the body consist of millions of microscopic cells, this cells multiply in an orderly fashion, new cells are made to replace the ones that died, but in cancer the cells multiply uncontrollably.

Symptoms of breast cancer
The first symptoms are usually an area of thickened tissue in the woman's breast or a lump in some patients it may come as rash or swelling accompanied with pain, majority of lumps are not cancerous however a health check should be carried out. Symptoms are likely to be:
  1. A lump in the breast
  2. Pain in the armpits
  3. Pain in the breast that is not related to menstrual period
  4. Redness of the skin of the breast
  5. A rash around the nipple
  6. A swelling in one of the armpits
  7. An area of thickened tissue in the breast
  8. Milky discharge from the nipple when not breast feeding
  9. Bloody/water discharge from the nipple
  10. Changes in nipple appearance, it may be sunken or inverted
  11. Changes in size and shape of the breast
  12. Nipple or breast skin peeling, scaling of flaking
Risk factor
  1. Age: The older the woman, the higher her risk of developing breast cancer
  2. Genetic: Women who have close relatve with breast cancer are likely to develop it
  3. History of breast cancer: Women who have had breast cancer are more likely to develop it again
  4. Dense breast tissue: Women with fence breast tissues are likely to have cancer
  5. Estrogen exposure: Women who started having periods earlier or enter menopause later than usual have higher risk
  6. Obesity: Post menopausal obese and overweight women may have higher risk
  7. Alcohol consumption: The more alcohol a woman regularly drinks, the higher her risk
  8. Radiation exposure: Undergoing x-ray and CT scan may raise a woman risk of having breast cancer
  9. Hormone replacement therapy: This is a cause of higher risk in women for breast cancer
  10. Certain jobs: Jobs that bring the body into contact with possible carcinogens and endocrine disruptor are at risk
  11. Cosmetic implants: Women with breast implants are at higher risk
  12. High sugar intake: Increases the risk of breast cancer and hasten it's spread to the lungs
Breast examination

1. Inspection
You need a mirror to do this so as to see your own reflectionreflection
What to look out for:
  • Compare the size of both breast
  • Check for lump, changes on skin and color changes on breast
  • Is the nipple looking normal, retracted or going inside?
2. Palpitation
  • Palpitate in a circular motion
  • Palpitate to the armpit
  • Palpitate standing and lying down
  • Palpitate when lifting up your hands
  • Check the nipple for discharge by pressing

Note: Monthly self examination after menstrual period

Preventing breast cancer
Lifestyle changes can help reduce a woman's risk of developing breast cancer
  1. Change in diet
  2. Physical exercise
  3. Breastfeed your baby well
  4. Control your weight
  5. Stop alcohol
Side effects of Western treatment

1. Mammogram: Equipment used for screening for breast cancer
  • It increase the risk of developing breast cancer and raise the risk of spreading or metastasizing an existing growth (Dr Charles B. Simone)
  • It provides false positive result and causes women to be exposed to additional x-rays, creating an environment of further stress
2. Chemotherapy:
Questionable chemotherapy drugs terribly toxic and highly expensive Dr. Lana Levi of University of California wrote "most cancer patients die of chemotherapy and not of the killer disease called cancer"

3. Radiotherapy:
Though high energy radiation shrink tumor and kill cancer cells, the radiation also causes damage to healthy cells and tissues destroying the patients health completelly

Some herbal treatment

Breast cancer is a deadly disease that claims the life of millions of women around the world every year. Dr. Hadin B. Jones says women who refused conventional treatment lives four times longer than women who accept
