HEPATITIS


Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver caused by viruses, toxic substances, excess deposition of fat, allergic reactions or overdoses of drugs and herbs. Hepatitis can either be acute or chronic. Acute hepatitis last for few weeks while chronic hepatitis last for more than six months. Hepatitis can disrupt the process of liver function and create severe health problem in the body. There are about seven viruses that can infect the liver and they are identified as hepatitis A, B, C, D, E, F and G. 
  1. Hepatitis A is the most common form of viral hepatitis, it is transmitted by food or drink contaminated by a carrier or patient and commonly occurs where sanitation is poor
  2. Hepatitis B is a much more serious infection, it is transmitted by infected blood, sexual contact with an infected person, tattooing, body fluid contact and also occurs in drug addicts and infected mother to infant, through breast feeding. Hepatitis B can cause liver cancer when inflamed.  
  3. Hepatitis C has a mode of transmission similar to hepatitis B. It is spread through transfusions or shared needles, it is a potentially deadly infection. Symptoms are fatigue, sore bones and dryness of the eyes
  4. Hepatitis D is a defective virus and occurs only when or after infection with hepatitis B.people with D virus usually have severe chronic hepatitis and make hepatitis B symptoms worse
  5. Hepatitis E is transmitted by infected food or drink and can cause acute hepatitis, it is more severe in a pregnant patient, it produces symptoms similar to hepatitis A
  6. Hepatitis F is an extremely rare type of the virus, it is transmitted from primate to human
  7. Hepatitis G is a relatively common infection, it accounts for as many as 9 percent of all hepatitis infections, hepatitis G is a mild form of the ceases and does not cause ongoing liver damage
 Chronic hepatitis
This may continue for months or years and eventually will lead to progressive liver failure resulting in jaundice, swelling of the lower extremities and blood in feces or vomit, it is usually caused by persistent infection with hepatitis virus usually B, C, or D. Chronic hepatitis keeps the liver from breaking down the toxins it normally removes from the body, thereby causing buildup of toxins in the bloodstream

The kidneys are two bean shaped organs, located against the back muscles in the upper abdominal cavity, they are essential to health as their main funtions are to remove waste products from the body and keep body chemicals in balance. The kidneys perform the following functions:
  1. To ensure that there is no too much or too little water in the body
  2. To make sure that blood pressure is not too high or too low
  3. To make sure that the body is not too acidic or too alkaline
  4. To maintain balance of electrolytes like potassium, sodium and calcium

8. Not eating enough

9. Excess sugar

13. Ignoring common infections

GINGIVITIS


This is simply an inflammation of the gums that is caused by the build up of plaques on the surfaces of the teeth and their necks , making the gum swollen and bleed easily especially while brushing the teeth, most times we over look the issue but it is worth while taken care off, in other to prevent it from becoming a bad case. Brushing is helpful in removing plaque, but there are more things needed to be done in other to prevent or reverse gum inflammation/disease. Gingivitis may also be a sign that you have an underlying health problems, it is also another way of the gum telling you that there is an imbalance in your system from a high fat nutrition, indoor pollutants, stress even a warning of the presence of cancerous cells in the body cannot be ruled out. To bring balance back to the body, the first thing is to reduce inflammation and swelling of the gum tissues, then look out for possible cause and treat accordingly.

Types of gingivitis
  1. Acute ulcerative gingivitis - this is a painful infection of the gum with sore littered all over the mouth thereby causing gingival over growth, this may also be caused by drug therapy
  2. Chronic gingivitis - this is a common disease of the oral cavity, it is an early stage of periodontal disease and may lead to receding gum, but it is reversible with good oral hygiene.
The main cause of gingivitis is poor oral hygiene which leads to the accumulation of bacteria at the gum line, these accumulation may be tiny but the bacteria in them produce toxins which create an inflammation in the gum tissues. The inflammation can cause an enlargement of the gingiva and lead to periodontitis.

INFERTILITY

In time past, infertility is often traced to and pinned on the woman, but with proper enlightenment and education it is no more news that men can also be infertile. Infertility is a widespread problem and it is becoming an epidemic that most be dealt with.
Male infertility refers to a male inability to make a fertile female pregnant.
Female infertility is simply described as not being able to get pregnant after one year of trying, some women will get pregnant but are unable to stay pregnant because of miscarriage, they are also categorized infertile.

PROSTATE CANCER

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, and second most frequent cause of cancer related death in men. It is a malignant (cancerous) tumor that begins in the prostate gland. The prostate is a walnut-size gland located between the bladder and the penis, it is in front of the rectum and the urethra runs through the center of the prostate from the bladder to the penis, letting urine flow out of the body. The gland produces some of the fluid that nourishes and protect sperm and plays a role in urine control in men, during ejaculation the prostate squeezes the fluid into the urethra and it expelled with sperm as semen. 
The prostate enlarge with age to an average weight of 40 grams in men in their 70s, many men experience unirary changes as they age, which may be caused by inflammation or enlargement of the prostate gland, and because the prostate is directly involved with sexual reproduction, removing it will affect semen production and fertility.

Prostate cancer begins when some cells in the prostate becomes abnormal, mutations in the abnormal cells cause the cells to grow. Prostate cancer grows slowly and may need little or no treatment because it may not cause problem for years, but some are aggresive and can divide more rapidly than normal cells do and spread quickly. BREAST CANCER

Breast cancer is the cancer that develop from breast cells, it usually start off in the inner lining of milk ducts or the lobules that supply them with milk, the breast cells become cancerous because of the mutation of the cells which increases without control. A malignant tumor can spread to other parts of the body if not immediately arrested, it is said that every tumor is cancerous except when proved otherwise, every case of tumor should be well investigated and approprate messure should be taken to arrest or stop the growth of this deadly disease. There are many types of breast cancer with stages, a breast cancer that started off in the lobules is known as lobular carcinoma, while the one that develop from the ducts is called ductal carcinoma. Breast cancer mostly occurs in females except for few men that are bursty. The rate of breast cancer are much higher in developed countries and the reasons for this is simply lifestyle and toxic load.
A mature human female breast consist of fat, convective tissues and thousands of lobules tiny glands which produce milk, the milk of a breast feeding mother goes through tiny ducts and is delivered through the nipples. The breast like any other part of the body consist of millions of microscopic cells, this cells multiply in an orderly fashion, new cells are made to replace the ones that died, but in cancer the cells multiply uncontrollably.

Symptoms of breast cancer
The first symptoms are usually an area of thickened tissue in the woman's breast or a lump in some patients it may come as rash or swelling accompanied with pain, majority of lumps are not cancerous however a health check should be carried out. Symptoms are likely to be:
  1. A lump in the breast 
  2. Pain in the armpits 
  3. Pain in the breast that is not related to menstrual period
  4. Redness of the skin of the breast

  8. Radiation exposure: Undergoing x-ray and CT scan may raise a woman risk of having breast cancer
  9. Hormone replacement therapy: This is a cause of higher risk in women for breast cancer
  10. Certain jobs: Jobs that bring the body into contact with possible carcinogens and endocrine disruptor are at risk
  11. Cosmetic implants: Women with breast implants are at higher risk
  12. High sugar intake: Increases the risk of breast cancer and hasten it's spread to the lungs

What to look out for:
  • Compare the size of both breast
  • Check for lump, changes on skin and color changes on breast

Sweating also known as perspiration is the release of salty liquid from the body's sweat gland, it is the body's natural way of regulating temperature, it is commonly found under the arms, on the feet, on the palm of the hands and on the face. An individual is born with about two to four million sweat glands, the glands starts to become fully active during puberty, Women have more sweat glands than men but men's sweat glands are more active. Sweating can be normal or abnormal. 

Normal sweating
Normal sweating helps to keep the body's temperature normal in hot weather, during a high temperature (fever), or when exercising. Maximum sweat rate of an adult can be up to 2 to 4 liters, evaporation of sweat from the skin surface has a cooling effect due to evaporative cooling, hence, in hot weather, or when the individual muscles heat up due to exertion, more sweat is produced.

Abnormal/Excessive sweating
Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) means that you sweat much more than normal, even when you are not hot, angry, anxious, or exercising, it is a common problem expecially under the armpit, on the palm of the hands and soles. It can be distressing and embarassing, In some cases, it can have a serious impact on affected individual by making them avoid social contact with others, for example, a bad palm sweating makes you have a cold sweaty handshake, and sweat may drip from your hands to your paper work in the office and your computer, sweating can also make you develop frequent wet patch on your cloth under your arms, causing you great embarassment, in some cases the affected skin may become sore, irritated and prone to infection, there is risk of developing eczema on affected skin area, individual that sweat on the sole will always have a smelling feet expecially when on socks throughout the day and this can also cause great embarrassment because of the stinking odour that such individual carries, sweat on its own does not smell, but when the bacteria on the skin mix with sweat, it producers a horrible odour, however, the condition is usually treatable. Excessive sweating is harmless, but in some cases it may be a medical condition.

THE DANGER OF DRINKING COLD WATER


Are you guilty of drinking cold water in order to get relief from the scorching heat, or to give you a satisfaction as you use it to stepdown your meal? 
The issue of drinking cold water especially while eating has been a topic for debate for a while now. The cool sensation provided by cold water can not be denied, the soothing relief we get after being devoured by the heat of the day is mind relaxing but drinking cold water at any time for any reason may come with serious health consequences because of its downside. 
Cold water makes blood viscosity high by clogging the arteries, causes blood vessels in the stomach to shrink thereby slowing absorption, solidify fats from the foods we eat making it hard for the body to digest and disperse unwanted fats from the body, weakens immune system and may also impair organs in the body such as the kidneys and the lungs.

ADULT HICCUPS

Hiccup is a sudden contraction of the diaphragm causing irritable spasms on the diaphragm muscle, as the muscle contracts repeatedly the opening between the vocal cords snaps shut to check in inflow of air and makes the hiccup to sound. that can occur for some seconds or minutes, but in few cases last longer in some individuals with or without underlying medical problem. Irritation of the nerves that extended from the neck to the chest can also cause hiccups, many conditions can cause this irritations that results in hiccuping, the likely medical condition for hiccup is good for most people, It is sometimes thought to be a reflex to protect a person from chocking but it's lingering effects causes social embarrassment and distress, the chronic hiccup may result in eating, sleeping and speech disorders.

Hiccups in newborns, infants and babies are common even babies hiccup in the stomach, there is generally nothing to worry about, this may be caused by overfeeding which leads to the distention of the stomach of the baby or caused by gastro-esophageal reflux in babies, usually the hiccups go away on its own but you can help the child by changing the baby's position or burpping the baby, placing a piece of thread on the baby's fontanelle (soft spot) when hiccuping will not and cannot stop hiccups in babies, it is only a myth.
To help babies stop hiccuping; feed the baby in an upright position, hold the baby for about 20 minutes after feeding, make sure the baby belch before lying down.

1. Eating healthy
Eating more of foods that grow on trees and less of processed or manufactured foods will keep you out of hospitals and boost your health, As Hippocrates (the father of modern medicine) rightly said, "let food be your medicine and medicine be your food", the farther we get from natural foods the less healthy it is for our bodies, processed foods are harder to breakdown and do not provide the necessary nutrients that natural foods do, eating lots of fruits and vegetables will make you feel energetic and alive.
Your breakfast is very important, eat it like a king, eat your lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar, do not skip your breakfast for any reason because the brain and body needs it to function properly throughout the day, you can decide to eat heavy meal for lunch but be mindful of your calorie intake, make your dinner very light and do not eat late into the night, learn to introduce varieties and colours to your food.

2. Be active and productive
Sedentary life will make the body adapt to insufficient physical activity and can also lead to substantial decrease in both total and quality of life, sitting for more than seven hours a day or lying for more than nine hours a day is considered a sedentary life and can send one to early grave. Being productive helps get out of sedentary life and and add quality to life.

3. Drink more water
Water is necessary to life, it is the most important part of healthy lifestyle and you should drink between 8 to 14 glasses of water per day, depending on your body weight, temperature and daily activities

  1. Water is the substance of life
  2. It gives you energy and vitality 
  3. Water transports and metabolizes
  4. Water remove toxins
  5. It protects the heart
  6. Gives the brain a boost
  7. Keeps you alert
  8. Help lose weight etc.


4.  Avoid stress
Stress is a key contributor to poor health, it is the body's response to pressure of life causing mental, emotional or physical wreck as a result of anxiety, overwork, marital, and financial disorder, which will eventually give birth to frustration, depression, bad temper sleeplessness etc. Man is like elastic that has it's limit to stretch, when a person is stretched/stressed, the body react and the result is health damaging. Everyone has a stress breaking point, when we are stretched to the maximum limit, it shows and tells on our person, avoid stress totally or bring it to the minimum to live a healthy life.

5. Sleep well
Sleep is very essential to a good health, body, mind and mood, it nourishes and energises the body, makes you feel refreshed and recuperated, inadequate sleep will have a negative impact on your brain and body making the body to become sluggish, having physical wreck and mental disturbances, headache and social imbalances, these can lead to hosts of health problems like heart diseases, dementia, diabetes and lots more


6. Get more sun
The amount of daylight exposure is vital in maintaining normal healthy life, naturally sun helps your body clock restart to it's active daytime routine, the most notable benefit of the sun is the ability to boost the body's Vitamin. D is produced by the skin response to UV radiation primarily through sun exposure, it naturally help prevent illnesses like inflammation, seasonal disorders and depression while it increases the serotonin levels in the body making you more active and alert, it prevent the skin from melanoma, help with lowering of high blood pressure, boost energy, promote bone growth, improve eyesight, improve blood circulation and the immune system.

7. Avoid salty foods

Exercise can help prevent excess weight gain or help maintain weight loss, when you engage in physical exercise you burn calories and it gives you energy to function better in your daily activities, it oxygenate the body, improve memory, strengthen the bones, lower blood pressure, and maintais mobility, exercising for at least 30 minutes daily can improve your health and decrease the risk of diseases

 10. Enjoy some level of socials
We are social beings and our social life is one of the most important influences on our health, our body, soul and mind can fall apart without social relationship.
Relating with people by socializing naturally develops ones communication skills which eventually leads to good social skills, when these tools are positively applied it is good for the body, soul and mind, thereby no reason for any heart related diseases like high blood pressure. Socials has lots of health benefits even as we age into older adults keeping mental and physical health in peak condition and also boost the immune system. You are responsible for your own happiness, get social and live healthy.

11. Cell phone
Heavy cell phone use and other wireless gadgets including your microwave oven have the potential to cause all sorts of health problems ranging from headaches to brain tumors and cancer, cell phone use could also make you have a neck and backache, cause inflammation to the joints, kill the spine and damage the eye sight, affects the heart and sperm motility in men,  it is advisable not to put the cell phone in your breast pocket or trouser pockets, learn to answer calls by the left ear because using the right ear will directly affect the brain and cut down on use of microwave oven because it kill the bones.
